Fire hits supermarket in Calauag, Quezon

A fire broke out inside a supermarket in Calauag, Quezon early Sunday morning.

The fire of still undetermined origin began inside the Puregold Calauag branch at around 1 a.m.

Firefighters from the towns of Calauag and Lopez as well as the Fire Volunteers of Kabalikat Civicom Calauag responded to the incident. 

Calauag Police said firefighters had difficulties in putting out the blaze, particularly in entering the establishment which appeared to have no fire exit.

Thick, billowing smoke enveloped the building and affected neighboring establishments and nearby traffic.

The fire was finally put out at 8:30 p.m., around 20 hours since it started. —Peewee Bacuño/RF/KG, GMA Integrated News
