Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew; Alert Level 2 remains
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash again on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The ash emission started at 5:54 a.m. and ended at 6 a.m., PHIVOLCS added.
"This event generated grayish plumes that rose 75 meters above the crater before drifting to the southwest as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory - Canlaon City (KVO-CC) IP Camera," it said.
PHIVOLCS shared a time-lapse video of the ash emission.
Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano, the agency said.
On Sunday, 26 volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin issued Monday.
Some 2,427 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were also emitted.
Weak plumes that rose up to 100 meters were observed Saturday. These drifted southwest and south-southwest.
PHIVOLCS said entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and flying aircraft close to the volcano should be prohibited.
Among the hazards the volcano poses are sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity.
