Man dies after beating by girlfriend's ex

A man died in the hospital days after his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend repeatedly beat his head in Calamba, Laguna.

According to a 24 Oras report by Oscar Oida on Friday, CCTV footage showed Leana Marie Perez’s ex-boyfriend suddenly entering their room last January 9.

The suspect began to kick and punch the head of her boyfriend, victim James Deus Ticzon, who was unable to fight back.

Footage also showed Leana attempting and failing to stop the attack.

“Sunod-sunod po na ang unang pagkabira niya as in di niya po tinigilan. As in, nag gaganon po siya, nagsisipa. Mukhang nakainom po siya nung time na yon,” Perez said.

(He repeatedly kept hitting; he didn’t stop after the first attack. As in, he kept doing that, he kept on kicking. I think he was drunk at the time.)

Meanwhile, Ticzon had been rushed to the hospital and was confined for 3 days before he passed away on January 14.

“Sabi niya, ‘Mama, hihiga na ako’. Doon po siya parang inatake… Medyo nagtirik po siya and nanigas yung mga kamay,” said the victim’s mother Maribeth Ticzon.

(He told me, ‘Mama, I’ll lie down now.’ That’s when he had some sort of stroke… He went stiff, and his hands froze.)

Leana said that she had previously been in a two-year relationship with the suspect, and that he had allegedly been violent during their time together.

“Yung parang sasakalin, itutulak, ganon… buntis po ako noon,” she said.

(He would strangle me, push me, something like that… I was pregnant at the time.)

Ticzon’s family is now calling for justice as the suspect remains at large.

“Initially, the complaint is sa barangay level, kasi initially it was physical injury. Then, since the expiration ni victim, magfafile tayo ng murder case din. Kumpleto na yung folder natin pero we need to wait sa mismong complainant natin para mafile natin totally sa court ito,” shared Calamba Component City Police Station Officer-in-Charge Police Lieutenant Colonel Dennis de Guzman.

(Initially, the complaint is at the barangay level because it was initially a physical injury. Then, since the expiration of the victim, we will also file a murder case. Our folder is complete now, but we need to wait for the actual complainant so we can totally file this in court.)

“Pagbayaran niya yung ginawa niya sa tao dahil walang kamuwang muwang, mawawalan ng buhay ng dahil sa kanya,” added Perez.
