Holy Week 2026: Over 6M devotees join Alay Lakad to Antipolo Cathedral
More than 6 million devotees joined the traditional Alay Lakad to the Antipolo Cathedral this Holy week, authorities in Rizal said on Good Friday.
Citing data from the Rizal Police Provincial Office, Rizal Governor Nina Ynares said an estimated 6,082,234 individuals joined the pilgrimage as of 4 a.m. of April 3.
"Sa pagtatapos ng Alay Lakad sa umaga ng Biyernes Santo, patuloy na dumagsa ang milyun-milyong deboto at mananampalataya na nag-alay lakad patungo sa Antipolo Cathedral bilang bahagi ng kanilang pananampalataya ngayong Semana Santa," Ynares said in a statement.
(At the conclusion of the Alay Lakad on the morning of Good Friday, millions of devotees continued to flock and walk toward the Antipolo Cathedral as part of their devotion this Holy Week.)
Ynares said traffic on roads leading to Antipolo, including Ortigas Avenue Extension, was expected to gradually return to normal after the Alay Lakad, which means "walk offering" in English.
She also advised the public to allot extra time for travel.
"Hinihikayat ang bawat isa na mag-ingat, maging mapagmatyag, at panatilihin ang kaayusan upang masiguro ang ligtas at mapayapang paggunita ng Alay Lakad," she said.
