4 dead as elf truck hits multicab in Cotabato

Four died in a road crash incident in Barangay San Mateo in Aleosan, Cotabato, while on their way to a college graduation celebration of a kin last Saturday afternoon, April 4. 

According to the report of GMA Regional TV’s Efren Mamac in “24 Oras” on Monday, CCTV footage showed a motorcycle in front of an elf truck, which was carrying the fatalities. When the elf truck came near the motorcycle, the former suddenly steered to the other lane, causing it to hit the center island and crash into an oncoming multicab. 

The passengers of the elf truck flew off due to the impact. Four of its 29 passengers were dead on arrival at the hospital, including a 3-year-old boy. 

The Cotabato Police said the elf truck passengers were on their way to a beach in Maguindanao del Norte for the celebration. 

The driver of the elf truck said that he tried to avoid the motorcycle in front of him. 

Investigation into the incident is still ongoing. 

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region 12 has already provided financial assistance to the victims. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA News
