3 people injured as motorbanca, passenger vessel collide off Zamboanga City
Three people were injured after a motorbanca and a passenger vessel collided in Zamboanga City on Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
MV SUG Adventure, a passenger ship, was reportedly sailing through the waters off the coast of Sta. Cruz Island in Zamboanga City when a carburetor failure caused the motorbanca, which was carrying three passengers, to lose control, accelerate suddenly, and collide with the ship.
The accident happened at 6 p.m.
"The impact caused the motorbanca to capsize, leaving its passengers in the water. Authorities immediately responded and rescued all passengers who sustained injuries," the PCG said.
MV SUG Adventure took on board the three injured passengers from the motorbanca and brought them to the Port of Zamboanga.
Upon arrival at the port, Coast Guard Station Zamboanga and Philippine Red Cross personnel, together with the vessel’s boarding team, assisted in the transfer of the injured passengers for medical treatment.
The PCG is investigating the maritime incident. —VBL, GMA News
