DPWH chief inspects Iloilo flyovers, sets timelines for reopening
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Wednesday inspected several infrastructure projects in Iloilo City and Iloilo province that are still under repair or have yet to be opened to the public, as the government moves to address delays in key transport structures.
In a report by GMA News Regional’s John Sala, among the sites visited was the Aganan Flyover in Pavia, which is still unused for nearly six years since construction began.
Dizon also revisited the Buhang Flyover, which he earlier inspected after it sustained structural damage.
During his previous visit, he reportedly had a near-miss incident when debris, including concrete, fell from the structure.
Following the inspection on Wednesday, Dizon directed officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region VI to ensure that the damaged flyover will be reopened within this month.
He also checked the progress of the Aganan Flyover project, which he described as among the infrastructure projects previously hounded by issues, including allegations of irregularities.
Authorities said partial access to the structure is being targeted within the year, with the southbound lane expected to open by December, while the northbound lane is projected for completion next year.
The inspections form part of the DPWH’s ongoing review of delayed and problematic infrastructure projects in the region, aimed at expediting completion and ensuring public safety. — Sherylin Untalan/JMA, GMA News
