WATCH: Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew; Alert Level 2 remains
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash anew on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said. Alert Level 2 remains, it added.
The ash emission event at the summit crater was captured on video at 8:32 a.m. by the cameras at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City.

"This event generated grayish plumes that rose 300 meters above the crater before drifting west and southwest," PHIVOLCS said.
On Friday, three ash emission events lasting 11 minutes to 40 minutes long were also recorded, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin issued Saturday.
There were also seven volcanic earthquakes including two volcanic tremors lasting six to 40 minutes long.
A total of 1,746 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were also emitted Friday, which resulted to moderate plumes that rose up to 1,000 meters tall. The plumes thereafter moved in the west-southwest and southwest direction.
PHIVOLCS said that at Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest), Kanlaon Volcano straddling Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental poses possible hazards as follows:
- sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions; and
- precursory magmatic activity.
It reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone should be prohibited.
Likewise, flying aircraft close to the volcano should not be allowed, PHIVOLCS said. —KG, GMA News
