The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that a grassfire began along the slopes of Taal Volcano on Tuesday afternoon.
The agency said the fire began at 5:35 p.m. and footage was captured by IP cameras of the Cuenca (VTCU) and Napayong Island (VTNP) observation stations.
The PHIVOLCS underscored that Alert Level 1 remains over Taal Volcano, as it closely monitors the situation.
As of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, there were three volcanic quakes recorded in the area.
The agency also measured 625 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux, weak plume, and short-term ground deformation. — BAP, GMA News
