Pampanga building collapse death toll rises to 11
The death toll in the collapsed building in Angeles City, Pampanga has risen to 11 on Sunday night, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Central Luzon said.
In a Facebook post, the BFP Central Luzon said the casualty was initially located at 2:48 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the collapsed structure in Barangay Balibago.
“Following the discovery, responders conducted debris removal and access operations utilizing heavy equipment to establish a safe entry route into the affected area,” it said.
Rescue personnel were able to reach and successfully extricate the fatality at 10:33 p.m.
“Responders remain fully engaged at the collapse site as search, rescue, and retrieval efforts continue,” the BFP Central Luzon added.
Earlier, the BFP Central Luzon said the 10th body was recovered from the rubble at 4:47 p.m. by a search and rescue team. It has yet to be identified.
The remains of the eighth fatality was recovered in the rubble at 2:51 p.m. while the body of the ninth victim was extricated at 3:43 p.m.
In a report of Darlene Cay on Super Radyo dzBB, Angeles City Information Officer Jay Pelayo IV said authorities are still maintaining a count of 14 missing individuals until they have identified the last two remains that they have recovered.
Earlier, the Angeles City Information Office reported to Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II at 7:50 a.m. after a search and retrieval team recovered the remains of a male victim from the debris, the seventh person confirmed to have died in the incident.
The search and retrieval, and clearing operations of the authority continue a week after the nine-storey structure collapsed on the early morning of May 24. —RF/JMA, GMA News
