Electricity consumers in the Visayas grid should expect a series of power interruptions on Tuesday afternoon to evening.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said it might implement manual load dropping (MLD) or rotating brownouts “to maintain the integrity of the power system” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the following franchise areas:

  • VECO
  • MECO
  • CEBECO I
  • CEBECO II
  • CEBECO III
  • NEPC
  • NOCECO
  • NORECO II
  • NONECO
  • MORE
  • AKELCO
  • ANTECO
  • CAPELCO
  • ILECO I
  • ILECO II
  • ILECO III
  • BLCI
  • BOHECO I
  • BOHECO II

The grid operator said the implementation of MLD was “due to limited generation in Cebu-Negros-Panay sub-grids.”

The NGCP placed the Visayas under yellow alert from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. as forced plant outages coupled with derated plant capacities resulted in 996.4 megawatts (MW) of capacity unavailable to the grid.

The islands-cluster is operating at an available capacity of 2,542 MW against a peak demand of 2,412 MW.

“Schedule may be cancelled if system condition improves, such as if actual demand falls below projections. NGCP encourages everyone to exercise prudence in using electricity,” the grid operator said. —RF, GMA News
