Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash 4 times, had 9 volcanic earthquakes —PHIVOLCS
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island had four ash emission events and nine volcanic earthquakes on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.
The ash emission events lasted from five to 68 minutes.
The volcano also had two volcanic tremors which lasted 13 to 23 minutes long.
A total of 2,153 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted by Kanlaon Volcano on Saturday.
These resulted in voluminous plumes that rose up to 800 meters tall before drifting in the general south and southeast direction.
PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
It reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone and flying aircraft close to the volcano should be prohibited.
PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano may suddenly have steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity. —KG, GMA News
