Magnitude-5.7 earthquake jolts Davao Occidental — PHIVOLCS
A magnitude-5.7 earthquake rattled Sarangani town in Davao Occidental on Saturday morning, an aftershock of the more powerful June 8 quake that devastated parts of Mindanao.
In a bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the latest quake was recorded at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, with its epicenter located 21 kilometers off Balut Island.
It had a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
According to PHIVOLCS, the earthquake was felt at Intensity V in General Santos City; Intensity IV at Malapatan, Malungon, Maasim and Kiamba towns in Sarangani province; Tupi and T'boli in South Cotabato; and Santa Maria in Davao Occidental.
Damage was expected from this seismic activity. Aftershocks were deemed unlikely.
The development comes just five days after a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck parts of Mindanao, leaving at least 61 dead, latest figures from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) showed on Saturday morning.
The number of injured individuals stood at 1,221, while 33 people are still missing. — VDV, GMA News
