Tacloban City shooting incident: Minor students undergo paraffin tests
The two children in conflict with the law (CICL) students who were involved in the shooting incident in Tacloban City have undergone paraffin tests, according to authorities.
In a “24 Oras” report by Raffy Tima on Monday, the students have also undergone medical examinations and are expected to be transferred to a CICL Center in Barangay Tagpuro under the custody of the city social welfare and development office.
As of writing, the number of wounded individuals has risen to 11, including six females and five males, with authorities expecting the figure to increase further.
In Tima’s report, a mother shared her child’s description of the shooters, who were able to catch the incident on video.
“‘Yung mas bata po, nagmaskara daw, nag-face mask, pero ‘yung mas matanda na 15 years old walang takip ang mukha,” the mother said.
“‘Yung mga anak ko ay, sumakit ‘yung ulo nung bunso kasi sa ano aligaga kanina,” she added.
(The younger one wore a face mask, but the older one, the 15-year-old, did not cover his face. My youngest child got a headache because of how chaotic and distressing it was earlier.)
The shooters were identified as students aged 14 and 15 from San Jose National High School.
According to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 8, the 14-year-old CICL will be exempted from criminal liability pursuant to Republic Act No. 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
Meanwhile, the 15-year-old student will be evaluated by the city social welfare and development office—appropriate cases will be filed against him if proven that he acted with discernment.
Recovered from the scene are 40 bullet shells, a .38 caliber revolver, and a 9mm Glock pistol.
PRO 8 confirmed that the 9mm Glock pistol is issued to a PRO 8 female officer, who’s also the aunt of the 14-year-old student.
Meanwhile, the .38 caliber revolver is registered to a security agency in Cebu City. –Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/NB, GMA News
