Sarangani LGU extends class suspension, modified work post magnitude 6.6 earthquake
Sarangani Governor Rogelio Pacquiao has directed the extension of the suspension of face-to-face classes and alternative work arrangements to a few days for further assessment and validation of structures after another strong earthquake hit the province last week.
In Executive Order No. 39, series of 2026, Pacquiao said that with the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that struck on June 26, 2026 "highlights the continuing seismic activity affective the Province and necessitates the further assessment, reassessment, validation and certification of the structural integrity of government buildings, and school facilities and other public infrastructure by the appropriate authorities.
He added that only after these processes are accomplished will regular government work and face-to-face classes resume.
Pacquiao acknowledged that the province has gradually transitioned to normal operations since a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck on June 8, 2026 but structures have to undergo assessment and validation, and the issuance of safety clearance in order to protect the people.
The E.O. extends an earlier order that stated regular work and classes are to resume on July 1, 2026 to July 15, 2026.
Notwithstanding the suspension of classes, the governor said, teachers, school heads, and personnel may physically report to their respective schools provided that these were cleared by the Municipal Engineer's office and approval of the School Division head. — BAP, GMA News
