Local government units have implemented measures to control the online exposure of children following the fatal school shooting in Tacloban, Leyte and reports of violent threats in some schools, according to a report in "State of the Nation."

In Dagupan, Pangasinan, a ban has been implemented on pisonet shops in accordance to an ordinance passed by local officials.

Internet piso shops were issued "notice of closure" and were given five days to close their business.

According to Mayor Belen Fernandez, this is a step to prevent children from becoming addicted to online gaming. This could also be the reason to commit abuse.

Some pisonet owners expressed their willingness to close their shop.

Several parents support the implementation of a ban against pisonet shops.

In Dumajug, Cebu Mayor has banned cellphones from the school premises. Analog phones, however, are the only gadgets allowed. — BAP, GMA News
