Cebu Province placed on heightened alert vs Kanlaon ashfall, Habagat
The province of Cebu was placed on heightened alert due to the threat of ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano and the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) being enhanced by Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi).
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro held a meeting on Friday with department heads at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Command Center regarding this, Super Radyo Cebu's Futch Anthony Inso reported on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday morning.
The provincial government is monitoring the effects of the ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano after it erupted on July 9.
Face masks were given to residents.
Two residents were brought to the hospital due to breathing difficulty amid the volcano's eruption, according to the Provincial Health Office.
The air quality in Cebu has already improved Friday as compared to Thursday, the PDRRMO said, but Baricuatro urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with authorities.
The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) meanwhile is coordinating with municipal veterinary offices to check on the condition of livestock following the ashfall, the provincial government said.
The Southwest Monsoon meanwhile has brought heavy rains and caused big waves.
About 300 fisherfolk who could not go out to sea due to the rough waters will receive assistance from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
The said office has also prepared food packs and other relief assistance for ready deployment to affected local government units. —KG, GMA News
