Checkpoints in place as BARMM election period begins
Several checkpoints were placed across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as the election period for its first parliamentary polls begins on Thursday.
Commission on Elections chairperson George Garcia said the election period began at 12:01 a.m., July 16, with the implementation of a gun ban.
"12:01 a.m. start na po ng election period sa BARMM (the election period in BARMM starts at 12:01 a.m.). Checkpoints will be set up in all 105 municipalities and 3 cities to implement the gun ban," Garcia said in a Viber message.
The election period will run from July 16 to September 29, 2026, while the campaign period will be from July 30 to September 12, 2026.
The BARMM elections will be on September 14.
In June, Garcia said the poll body is studying the accreditation of media organizations from BARMM for election coverage.
He added that Comelec is determining the dominant majority and minority regional political parties in BARMM to grant them access to the server.
The poll body also printed the computerized voters' list for the BARMM polls.
The posted CVL will contain the names of voters and their respective numbers, while the election day CVL is where the voters will sign after casting their votes.
After the CVLs are printed, they will undergo verification before the packing and receiving committee takes over.— AOL, GMA News
