8-year old student in Davao City dead after being hit with notebook
An eight-year-old girl in Davao City died after a classmate allegedly hit her on the head with a notebook.
According to a 24 Oras report by Rgil Relator of GMA Regional TV on Thursday, the incident occurred last Friday. The child later suffered body pains for a few days before she was taken to the hospital on Tuesday.
A few hours later, the girl passed away. The victim’s family filed a report at the police station that said she experienced bullying at her school.
Chief of the Sta. Ana Police Station P/Maj. Marc Hedssel Culste said the child was in a fight with another student at the school when she was struck on the head by a notebook. The other child confessed the incident to their teacher, police said.
The public school where the students were enrolled has not issued a statement on the incident.
Culste said the initial findings indicated brain failure and traumatic brain injury. The police are also waiting on further results from an ultrasound of the victim’s stomach.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Region XI said that it is investigating the incident. DepEd spokesperson Jenielito Atillo also said that their agency plans to employ psychosocial intervention of the victim's class.
DepEd Region XI will also provide assistance to the family, she added. —Jean Mangaluz/RF, GMA News
