'Albularyo' arrested in Cavite gun bust; 3 loose firearms seized — PNP

A 72-year-old albularyo or faith healer was arrested in General Trias City, Cavite after authorities seized three loose firearms during the implementation of a search warrant, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a statement over the weekend, the PNP said operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) - Cavite served a search warrant against the suspect identified as alias Nilo on July 29 in Barangay Pasong Kawayan I for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Seized from the suspect were a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .357 revolver, a caliber .22 revolver, assorted magazines, and ammunition.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody after authorities found that he had no license or permit to possess the firearms.

According to the PNP, investigators later learned that the suspect was a known albularyo in the area who allegedly sold agimat, or amulets, which he claimed could protect buyers from bullets.

Authorities also alleged that the suspect demonstrated the supposed powers of the amulets by publicly firing firearms, causing fear and alarm among residents.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force would continue to strictly enforce firearm laws.

"The unlawful possession of firearms undermines peace and public safety. We will relentlessly pursue individuals who choose to violate our laws and put communities at risk," Nartatez said.

"Walang sinuman ang maaaring magtago sa likod ng anumang paniniwala para labagin ang batas. Kapag may ilegal na baril, kikilos ang PNP upang mapanatili ang kaayusan at maprotektahan ang ating mga kababayan," he added.
