Cardinal David: Betis heritage church in Pampanga affected by floodwaters

Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David laments the state of the Betis Heritage church after it was flooded following nonstop rain in Guagua, Pampanga.

"Betis church under water. It pains me to see our beloved Betis Church like this," the prelate said in a social media post that included some pictures.

"After days of almost nonstop rain, floodwaters have entered the church, submerging its beautiful old wooden floor. Betis is one of our country’s precious heritage churches — and among the few that still retain their original wooden floors, worn by the footsteps of generations who prayed there before us," he added.

The church was established in 1607 and declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

"We pray that the rains subside and the waters recede soon — and that this precious heritage church, which survived Pinatubo, will also survive the growing threats of climate change," David added. — BAP, GMA News
