Death toll in Baguio landslide now 10 dead —Baguio PIO

The death toll from a landslide in Baguio City rose to 10 after responders recovered the victims from the debris, the Baguio City Public Information Office said Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the Baguio PIO said that as of 2:40 a.m., authorities had extracted all 13 individuals reported missing in the incident. Three of them were found alive.

The landslide occurred in Barangay Guisad Surong following eight days of continuous rains in the Cordillera region.

The Department of Education (DepEd) said five of those who died were learners.

The victims included two Grade 7 learners from Guisad Valley National High School, one Grade 3 learner and one Grade 4 learner from Bonifacio Elementary School, and one learner under the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

“We are heartbroken by the loss of five of our learners,” DepEd said.

The agency expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Cordillera community.

DepEd said class suspensions remain in place as rains continue, while its field offices coordinate with local government units and disaster response agencies to ensure the safety of learners and personnel.

The department is also assessing damaged school infrastructure, with particular attention to slope protection and other measures to ensure campus safety.
