Calumpit hit with severe floods amid heavy rains

Several areas in Calumpit, Bulacan were hit with severe floods following continuous rains in the province.

In a Saksi report from Gabriel Gonzales on Tuesday, at least 29 barangays were flooded, with one of the worst hit being Barangay Gugo.

Gugo has suffered from continuous flooding for a year, which was recently exacerbated by the continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

The barangay has been acting as a flood basin for the surrounding areas. Flooding in the area could even surpass a person’s height.

Instead of farming, the residents of Gugo rely on fishing for their livelihood.

Gugo Barangay Chair Carlota Marcelino said her constituents have long endured such conditions because they have nowhere to go.

“Kaya po sana po kung may mga mabubuting kalooban, matulungan po kami lalo na po sa pagkain…sana magkaroon kami ng magandang daan,” Marcelino said.
