Habagat causes neck-high flood in Pampanga, residents use boats in Bulacan

Continued rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat caused flooding which reached as high as one's neck in the parts of Luzon.

According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," such was the case in Pampanga.

The water was so high that it had entered people’s homes. Some people had to ride boats just to get around.

Residents of Calumpit, Bulacan also experienced high floods, with many of them needing to get on boats as well. The non-stop rains coincided with the high-tide. In some parts, the water could reach a person’s chest.

In Barangay Iriron in Occidental Mindoro, the streets were taken over by floodwater, leaving several cars stranded. Some bridges were also dropped by fallen trees. Local authorities have since conducted clearing operations.

In Occidental Mindoro, Barangay Poblacion suffered an overflowing river, which overtook the Anawahin Bridge.

Meanwhile in San Marcelino, Zambales, a landslide blocked the road.

In Sariaya, Quezon, a body was recovered in the Bantilan River. The male victim fell into the river during the foul weather. Authorities have been searching for him for three days before his body was recovered.

At least 3,000 people were in Jaen, Nueva Ecija affected by the monsoon floods. The local government has deployed aid to residents.

Heavy rain caused zero visibility on Sumulong Road in Rizal, Antipolo on Friday.

While there is no cyclone, the state weather bureau said that the monsoon rains are expected to persist over the following days. August is considered as the month when the effects of habagat are felt the most. –Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/NB, GMA News
