Pag-antala ng cellphone services sa ruta ng Nazareno, pinuna ng isang grupo

Pinuna ng grupong TXTPower ang naging desisyon ng gobyerno na isuspende ang cellphone services  sa ruta ng prosesyon ng Itim na Nazareno.

 

"Keeping all public communication outlets, especially cellphone services, open is the public’s and the government’s sounding board against any alleged terror threats. Open cellphone lines would enable citizens to respond to President Aquino’s call for reports of suspicious persons and groups,” ayon sa pahayag ng TXTPower.

 

“It is also vital to media, whose profession relies heavily on cellphone services, to report to the public and to both private and public security personnel,” dagdag ng grupo.

 

Sa panayam ng dzBB radio nitong Lunes ng tanghali, inihayag ni Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome na gumamit ang PNP ng mga two-way radio upang makipag-ugnayan sa isa't isa.

 

"Yes meron tayong two-way radios," ani Bartolome.

 

Sa mga naunang ulat ng dzBB, may ilang mga pulis umano sa lugar ang nakaranas ng problema sa pakikipag-ugnayan bunsod sa pagsuspende ng mobile services.

 

Nitong Linggo, inihayag ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III ang umano'y terrorist threat kaugnay sa prusisyon ng  Itim na Nazareno sa Maynila ngayong Lunes.

 

“We could only guess the sense of unease and insecurity of families and groups who are now gathered in Quiapo upon discovering that their cellphones are inoperable,” ani TXTPower.

 

Para sa grupo, nararapat lamang na protektahan ng gobyerno ang publiko mula sa terror threats, ngunit “we must not easily surrender fundamental rights, especially those that affect communications.”

 

“Derailing the enjoyment of these rights is said to be among the aims of terrorists. (Now) the government has done it for them,” aniya.

 

Ayon sa grupo, dapat inihayag ng gobyerno sa publiko ang suspension ng cellphone service upang makapaghanap ang publiko ng mga alternatibong paraan ng komunikasyon. — Amanda Fernandez/RSJ, GMA News
