A(H1N1) Update: 2,371 cases in 24 countries; 44 deaths in Mexico, US
MANILA, Philippines - The number of officially reported human cases of Influenza A(H1N1) infection worldwide rose by 25 percent to 2,371 (Update 20) on May 7 from 1,893 (Update 18) on May 6, data culled by GMANews.TV from the World Health Organization showed. The number of countries infected by the disease increased to 24 from 23 with the inclusion of Poland that has one confirmed case. A(H1N1) cases increased in nine of the 24 countries from May 6 to May 7. Fatalities in Mexico increased to 42 from 29, while deaths in the US remained at two. The nine countries are:
- Mexico â 1,112 cases from 942 cases
- US â 896 from 642
- Canada â 201 from 165
- Spain â 81 from 73
- United Kingdom â 32 from 28
- Germany â 10 from 9
- South Korea â 3 from 2
- The Netherlands â 2 from 1
- Israel â 6 from 4
- New Zealand â 5
- Italy â 5
- France â 5
- El Salvador â 2
