President Rodrigo Duterte met United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki Moon at the ASEAN Summit Gala dinner held in Vientianne, Laos.

A photo of the two leaders at the venue was distributed by the Palace to members of the media.

There are no details on what they talked about and how long was the meeting as of posting.

The meeting transpired despite Duterte's earlier decision to decline a meeting with Ban in Laos.

Ban had criticized Duterte's anti-illegal drugs war for the latter's stand on extra-judicial killings.

President Duterte also met briefly met with US President Barack Obama and were able to iron out issues, according to Foreign Minister Perfecto Yasay.
