Las Vegas shooter killed himself after raining down bullets on concert —police

The man behind the shooting in Las Vegas that killed at least 50 people killed himself before police arrived, according to the Las Vegas sheriff.

The gunman was identified as 64-year-old local resident Stephen Paddock.

Paddock was killed after a SWAT team responded to reports of multiple gunfire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay, a hotel-casino next to the concert venue.

Earlier reports indicated that Paddock, who had more than 10 rifles in his hotel room, had been shot by police.

Undersheriff Kevin McMahill told CNN a police SWAT team found "a number of long rifles" after confronting the gunman in the hotel room. —reports from Reuters and AFP
