Committee to Protect Journalists sounds alarm over missing Chinese journalist in Wuhan
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Wednesday said a Chinese freelance journalist has been missing since February 26.
The journalist, identified as Li Zehua, is suspected to have been arrested in Wuhan, China after news reports said security agents were seen in a livestream video arresting him in his temporary apartment, CPJ said.
Li has been reporting about the COVID-19 situation in Wuhan.
In a YouTube video, he reported about journalist Chen Qiushi who went missing in Wuhan in February.
"On February 17, Li posted a video saying that a local neighborhood committee had not carried out the basic countermeasures promised by authorities, and had tried to cover up information about infected cases in the community," the CPJ said.
Li also reported about a crematorium allegedly hiring more workers to transport bodies, and the Wuhan lockdown.
CPJ said it asked the Wuhan Public Security Bureau about Li but got no reply. —KG, GMA News
