Kyiv metro stations to be used as air raid shelters; Russians breach area near Chernobyl


KYIV — The mayor of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, said four metro stations in the city would be used as air raid shelters, as Russia's invasion continued.

Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko said that the stations do not have trains running so they could be used as bomb shelters.

The former world heavyweight boxing champion also ordered a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. local time. and that public transport would stop working during that period.

The metro stations serving as bomb shelters would remain open throughout, he added.

Russian troops from the direction of Belarus entered an area near the former nuclear power plant Chernobyl, an adviser to Ukraine's interior minister said, while the local Ukrainian leadership in the Donetsk region said Russian forces had hit a hospital there, killing four people. — Reuters
