No tsunami threat after magnitude 7 quake hits New Caledonia region


An earthquake of magnitude 7 struck Tadine, New Caledonia region on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), USGS said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued an advisory that there is no tsunami threat in the Philippines.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," the agency posted. -- Reuters with BAP, GMA News
