Italy’s Berlusconi has leukemia, is suffering from lung infection

MILAN — Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been suffering from a type of chronic blood cancer for some time and is currently in intensive care for a lung infection, his doctors said on Thursday.

The doctors said in a statement that Berlusconi has chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, adding that it was not acute.

"President Silvio Berlusconi is currently in intensive care for the treatment of a lung infection," the statement said, adding that the illness was related to the cancer. — Reuters
