PH urges parties in Middle East conflict to uphold peace deal
The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on Monday urged all parties involved in the escalating tensions in the Middle East to remain committed to an initial peace agreement and pursue diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
“We continue to urge all involved parties to remain committed to the initial peace agreement and pursue constructive dialogue in finding a negotiated diplomatic solution to the conflict, as well as refrain from actions that could undermine the progress of the peace talks,” the DFA said in a statement.
The DFA said the Philippines is closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz and expressed grave concern over the recent attacks in the region.
On Sunday, June 29, Axios reported that Iran and the United States had agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Gulf and resume negotiations over their dispute involving the Strait of Hormuz.
The reported agreement followed several days of strikes and counterstrikes after an Iranian projectile struck a cargo vessel in the strategic waterway on Thursday, with both Washington and Tehran accusing each other of violating an interim ceasefire.—MCG, GMA News
