Malacañang to wipe out NPA in 4 years

Malacañang aims to wipe out the New People's Army (NPA) in four years after government peace negotiation with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) broke down. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita issued the statement as CPP founder Jose Ma. Sison said there is nothing wrong with forging alliances with disgruntled policemen or military. Sison warned of more violent actions from "reactionary forces" if President Arroyo continues to cling to power. Ermita said the government is not losing hope that peace could be worked out with the CPP-NPA and the National Democratic Front (NDF), but "we have a timetable to reduce the NPA’s fighting capability." Earlier, National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said the CPP-NPA-NDF remains the country's number-one security threat, which has infiltrated Congress and various organizations, including the political opposition. Ermita said peoples’ support and cooperation is important in wiping out the rebels. -GMANews.TV
