Malacañang vows to wipe out NPA in 4 years

Malacañang on Sunday vowed to wipe out the New People's Army (NPA) in four years. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita issued the statement after Jose Ma. Sison, Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairman, said there is nothing wrong with forging alliances between disgruntled policemen or soldiers and communist rebels. Ermita said the government is not losing hope that peace could be worked out with the communist rebels, but "we have a timetable to reduce the NPA’s fighting capability." National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said the communists remain the country's number-one security threat. Ermita said peoples’ support and cooperation is important in wiping out the rebels. -GMANews.TV
