PAGASA: Heavy rains over parts of Luzon, Mindoro over National Heroes' Day long weekend

Several areas in Luzon and Mindoro may receive up to 200 millimeters of rain over the next three days – the long weekend ending on National Heroes' Day on Monday – due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, PAGASA said Friday night.

In its heavy rainfall outlook, PAGASA said rainfall of 100 to 200 mm may be recorded from Friday night to Saturday evening (Aug. 28 to Aug. 29) in the following areas:

• Pangasinan,
• La Union,
• Benguet,
• Bataan,
• Zambales,
• Tarlac,
• Pampanga, and
• Occidental Mindoro.

During the same period, rainfall of 50 to 100 mm is expected over the following:

• Ilocos Norte,
• Ilocos Sur,
• Abra,
• Nueva Ecija,
• Bulacan,
• Metro Manila,
• Rizal,
• Cavite,
• Laguna,
• Batangas, and
• Oriental Mindoro.

From Saturday evening to Sunday evening (Aug. 29 to Aug. 30), rainfall of 100 to 200 mm is possible over the following areas:

• Ilocos Sur,
• La Union,
• Pangasinan,
• Abra,
• Benguet,
• Zambales, and
• Bataan.

During this period, rainfall of 50 to 100 mm will affect:

• Ilocos Norte,
• Apayao,
• Kalinga,
• Ifugao,
• Mountain Province,
• Nueva Vizcaya,
• Tarlac,
• Nueva Ecija,
• Pampanga,
• Bulacan,
• Metro Manila,
• Rizal,
• Cavite,
• Laguna,
• Batangas,
• Occidental Mindoro, and
• Oriental Mindoro.

From Sunday evening to Monday evening, 100 to 200 mm of rain is expected over:

• Ilocos Norte,
• Ilocos Sur,
• La Union,
• Pangasinan,
• Abra,
• Benguet, and
• Zambales.

During this period, rainfall of 50 to 100 mm is expected over:

• Batanes,
• Apayao,
• Kalinga,
• Ifugao,
• Mountain Province,
• Nueva Vizcaya,
• Tarlac,
• Nueva Ecija,
• Bataan,
• Pampanga,
• Bulacan,
• Metro Manila,
• Rizal,
• Cavite,
• Batangas, and
• Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA said rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas.

The impact of the rains may also be worsened by significant rainfall that has already occurred in some areas, it added.

PAGASA advised local disaster risk reduction and management offices to take necessary measures to protect lives and property.

The agency said its Regional Services Divisions may issue heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories, and other severe weather information for their respective areas as needed.

Unless significant changes occur, PAGASA said its next weather advisory will be issued at 5 a.m. Saturday.

PAGASA also reminded the public that a Heavy Rainfall Warning provides a more immediate forecast covering the next three hours and may be issued down to the municipal level, while a Weather Advisory provides a broader 24-hour outlook at the provincial level.
