Habagat to bring rain over western PH

The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms over parts of the western Philippines on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, PAGASA said Western Visayas, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in affected areas, PAGASA said.

The Negros Island Region and Zamboanga Peninsula will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, also due to the Southwest Monsoon. Severe thunderstorms may cause flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Similar hazards are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Dujuan was located 2,000 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon as of 3 a.m. Sunday, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Dujuan had maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph. It was moving northwestward at 20 kph.

PAGASA said winds over the Visayas and Mindanao will be light to moderate and from the southwest to west, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate and wave heights of 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

The western section of Southern Luzon will experience light to moderate winds from the southwest to southeast, while the rest of Luzon will have light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest. Coastal waters in these areas will also be slight to moderate, with wave heights of 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

At the PAGASA Weather Station in Science Garden, Diliman, Quezon City, the temperature ranged from 24.7°C to 31.2°C during the 24 hours ending at 8 p.m. Saturday.
