LPA, ITCZ to bring rains over parts of Philippines

A low pressure area (LPA) and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will bring cloudy skies and rains to several parts of the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its Saturday morning forecast.

The affected areas include Metro Manila, the Visayas, Mindanao, the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA.

Meanwhile, the northeasterly windflow will bring cloudy skies with rains over Batanes, while the easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan.

The rest of Luzon will experience localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 410 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar. PAGASA said it has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Koguma was spotted 3,200 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It was packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gusts of up to 190 km/h.
