Signal No. 1 remains over Batanes as Typhoon Rosal moves farther away

Typhoon Rosal maintained its strength over the sea east of Taiwan, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. Friday bulletin.

As of 10 p.m., Rosal's center was located 460 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 190 km/h.

Rosal was moving north-northwestward at 25 km/h and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained in effect over Batanes.

Rosal's periphery will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):

  • Saturday, October 24: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, northern Quezon, Polillo Islands, Bicol Region, Romblon, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental
  • Sunday, October 25: Batanes and Babuyan Islands

"Rosal is forecast to gradually weaken in the next 12 hours. As it moves over the East China Sea, rapid weakening will begin and it may be downgraded [to] a severe tropical storm by tomorrow [Saturday]," PAGASA said. — VBL, GMA News
