TD Amang heads for Southern Leyte; 12 areas under Signal 1

Tropical Depression Amang was in the vicinity of the Dinagat Islands early Monday morning on its way towards Southern Leyte, PAGASA reported in a 2 a.m. bulletin.

At 1 a.m., Amang was 60 kilometers north-northeast of Surigao del Norte's Surigao City, with 45 kilometer per hour and gusts of up to 60 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was raised over the following areas:

  • Eastern Samar,
  • Samar,
  • Biliran,
  • Leyte,
  • Southern Leyte,
  • eastern Bohol,
  • northern Cebu,
  • Agusan del Norte,
  • Surigao del Sur,
  • Surigao del Norte,
  • the Dinagat Islands, and
  • Camiguin.

Moderate to heavy rain could thus be expected over the Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Bicol Regions.

PAGASA warned that landslides and flooding were dangers in these areas. Amang would also make the seaboards of areas under Signal 1; the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon; and the eastern seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao dangerous for fisherfolk and small seacraft.

Given that Amang was northwest at 25 kph, the tropical depression would be 85 kms north-northwest of Cebu's Mactan City by Monday evening.

By Tuesday, Amang would bring moderate to heavy rain over the Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. — DVM, GMA News
