Egay slightly weakens; Signal No. 1 up over Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands
Tropical Depression Egay slightly weakened on Monday as it continued to move in the northwest direction.
Signal No. 1 remains raised over Batanes, and has been hoisted over Babuyan Group of Islands, PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. severe weather bulletin.
These areas will have rains and winds of 30 to 60 kph.
Seas will be moderate to rough in these areas, thus fisherfolk and those with small seacraft were advised not to venture out over the seaboards.
Egay was located as of 4 a.m. at 195 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 205 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
Egay is moving northwest at 40 kph toward Batanes.
It is expected to become a low pressure area in 24 hours.
By Tuesday evening, Egay is expected to be 195 km west northwest of Basco, Batanes.
Southwest Monsoon
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is affecting Luzon and Visayas.
Light to moderate to at times heavy monsoon rains will pour over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Antique, Aklan, and western Iloilo.
The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas, meanwhile, will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Flash floods and landslides may occur.
Mindanao, meanwhile, will have fair weather but may have isolated rainshowers due to thunderstorms.
LPA
PAGASA is also monitoring a low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
It was located 575 km west of Northern Luzon.
The LPA, however, is not expected to enter PAR.
It is expected to speed up on its way to China.
