LPA to bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Bicol region
A low pressure area (LPA) which may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours is expected to bring widespread moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, and scattered to widespread light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas on Wednesday, PAGASA said.
In a weather advisory issued at 11 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA will also bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rainshowers over Southern Quezon, Romblon, Marinduque, the northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, SOCCSKSARGEN, Northern Mindanao, and CARAGA.
At 10 a.m., the LPA was estimated based on all available at 30 km east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (11.7°N, 125.7°E).
PAGASA said that due to the LPA's proximity to land, tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted immediately once the LPA develops into a tropical depression.
Floodings and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, PAGASA added.
The weather bureau advised the public and local disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take appropriate measures and monitor the rainfall/thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
Fisherfolk and those using small seacraft were also advised to take precautions when venturing over the eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas. —Jamil Santos/KG, GMA News
