Cloudy skies, scattered rains over western sections of southern Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA, southwest monsoon


The Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 320 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte as the effects of the southwest monsoon will be felt in the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao on Wednesday, PAGASA reported in its early morning forecast.

Metro Manila, Mindanao, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western and Central Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms brought about by the LPA and southwest monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeasterly surface windflow with no significant impact.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms and the southwest monsoon with the possibility that flash floods or landslides occurring during severe thunderstorms.

The weather bureau is also monitoring an active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Chan-Hom was located at 1,600 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 125 kph moving in the west northwest direction at a speed of 15 kph.

The wind speed forecast for northern Luzon is moderate to strong moving northeastward with moderate to rough coastal waters.

Central and Southern Luzon wind speed will be moderate to strong and moving in the northeast to northwest direction with moderate to rough coastal waters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate wind speed moving in the southwest to west direction while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.
