Metro Manila, 9 areas to have rains, thunderstorms from LPA, Habagat

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to prevail over Metro Manila and nine other areas due to a low-pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), PAGASA said Saturday.

According to its 24-hour forecast, other areas also affected are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

PAGASA warned affected residents of possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

The LPA and the Northeasterly Surface Windflow may also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Flash floods and landslides are possible due to severe thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, the LPA was estimated at 260 kilometers east of Appari, Cagayan.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Also, PAGASA said flash floods and landslides are possible.

A tropical storm was also spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 1,995 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

It is moving east northeastward at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, the PAGASA synoptic station at the Science Garden, Quezon City recorded a minimum temperature of 24.5°C AT 6:20 a.m. and a maximum temperature of 30.2°C at 1:50 p.m. —LBG, GMA News
