From Auring to Zoraida: Here are PAGASA’s storm names for 2021

PAGASA has disclosed the names for the tropical cyclones that will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 2021.

According to GMA meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, these names are:

1. Auring
2. Bising
3. Crising
4. Dante
5. Emong
6. Fabian
7. Gorio
8. Huaning
9. Isang
10. Jolina
11. Kiko
12. Lannie
13. Maring
14. Nando
15. Odette
16. Paolo
17. Quedan
18. Ramil
19. Salome
20. Tino
21. Uwan
22. Verbena
23. Wilma
24. Yasmin
25. Zoraida

In the event that the number of typhoons within the year exceeds 25, PAGASA turns to its list of auxiliary names, which include:

• Alakdan
• Baldo
• Clara
• Dencio
• Estong
• Felipe
• Gomer
• Heling
• Ismael
• Julio

PAGASA’s practice of assigning local names to tropical cyclones began in 1963. It currently has four sets of 25 alphabetically arranged names to use and re-use until 2036.
