LPA east of Camarines Norte develops into TD Maring

The low pressure area east of Camarines Norte has developed into a tropical depression, PAGASA said Thursday.

In its 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the tropical depression has been named "Maring."

The center of Maring was located 505 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes at 4 p.m. with maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 55 kph, and central pressure of 1002 hPa. It is moving south southeastward at 15 kph.

PAGASA said the trough of Maring may bring light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains over Eastern Visayas.

"Under these conditions, scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps," PAGASA said.

Based on Maring's current track and intensity, PAGASA said there is moderate to high likelihood that tropical cyclone wind signals will be hoisted over several provinces in Northern Luzon by Saturday.

The highest possible wind signal for Maring is TCWS No. 2, PAGASA said. But there is a possibility that a higher wind signal will be raised.

In the next 24 hours, moderate to rough seas will prevail over the seaboards of Luzon and the eastern and western seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.

"These conditions are risky for those using small sea craft. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions," PAGASA said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
