Gardo maintains strength while moving away from extreme Northern Luzon

Tropical Depression Gardo has maintained its strength while moving away from the country, weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday.

Based on its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Gardo was last seen 1,080 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon at 4 p.m.

It is moving northward at 10 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.

No storm signals were raised as the tropical cyclone is unlikely to affect both the country’s weather and sea conditions during the forecast period, it added.

Gardo is expected to move generally north-northwestward or northward throughout the forecast period as it interacts with Super Typhoon Hinnamnor, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

However, Gardo may degenerate into a remnant low on Wednesday evening or early Thursday as Hinnamnor begins to assimilate its circulation.

Rains across country

Meanwhile, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Zambales, and Bataan due to the trough of Gardo and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

Forecast wind speeds will be light to moderate, while coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate.

The sun will rise over Metro Manila at 5:44 a.m. on Thursday. —VBL, GMA News
