Signal No. 3 in parts of Ilocos Norte as Egay heads northwest
Typhoon Egay is steadily weakening as it accelerates towards Luzon Strait and out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday, according to the 11 p.m. bulletin by weather bureau PAGASA.
Moving northwestward to Itbayat, Batanes, the typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometer per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.
Still, parts of Ilocos Norte —Bangui, Pagudpud, Burgos, Pasuquin—remain under Signal No. 3.
The areas will experience winds greater than 89 km/h up to 117 km/h in at least 18 hours, which may bring dangerous disturbances to affected communities.
Areas under Signal No. 2 are:
- Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
- Kalinga
- Abra
- the rest of Ilocos Norte
- Apayao
- The northern and central portion of Ilocos Sur (Gregorio del Pilar, Magsingal, San Esteban, Banayoyo, Burgos, City of Candon, Santa Lucia, Santiago, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Lidlidda, Nagbukel, Sinait, Suyo, Sigay, San Ildefonso, Galimuyod, Quirino, City of Vigan, San Emilio, Cabugao, Caoayan, San Juan, Santa, Bantay, Santo Domingo, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Narvacan, Salcedo, Tagudin, Cervantes)
- The western portion of Mountain Province (Besao, Sagada, Bontoc, Sadanga, Tadian, Sabangan, Bauko), and Batanes
The following areas are forecasted to experience winds greater than 62 km/h up to 88 km/h within the next 24 hours with moderate to light threat to high-risk structures.

- The rest of Mountain Province
- Ifugao
- Zambales
- Pangasinan
- Benguet
- La Union
- Nueva Vizcaya
- The rest of Ilocos Sur
- Quirino
- Aurora
- Nueva Ecija
- Tarlac
- Pampanga
- The northern portion of Bataan (Morong, Samal, Orani, Hermosa, Dinalupihan)
- The northern portion of Bulacan (Hagonoy, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Paombong, City of Malolos, Plaridel, Guiguinto, Pandi, Bustos, Angat, Calumpit, Pulilan, Baliuag, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, San Miguel)
Areas under signal number 1 may experience winds of 39 to 61 km/ph and intermittent rains within the next 36 hours, with little to no threats to property.
Rainfall and winds
Lighter rainfall outlook has been forecasted for Typhoon Egay, along with moderate to significant winds.
At least 100-200 mm rainfall will be experienced in Ilocos Norte, and the northern portions of Ilocos Sur and Abra, while 50-100 mm rains will fall in The western portion of Babuyan Islands, the western portion of Apayao, the rest of Abra, the rest of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
Gusty conditions will be felt within the next three days due to the enhanced southwest monsoon in Luzon and Western Visayas on Thursday; Batanes, Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, the southern portion of Quezon, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Western Visayas on Friday; and Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Romblon, the northwestern portion of Antique, and Kalayaan Islands on Saturday.
According to the forecast, elevated or higher areas are to expect higher rainfall, which means flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible.
Coastal waters
There is a moderate to high risk of storm surge exceeding 3.0 meters in most warning areas including the low-lying and exposed coastal areas of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
A gale warning has been placed over several coastal waters along the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
