PAGASA: 34 areas under danger level heat index on Thursday

PAGASA, on Wednesday, reported that 34 different areas in the country will be having a heat index falling under the danger level on Thursday.

According to their 5 p.m. heat index forecast, the following areas will be having heat indexes ranging from 42°C to 45°C:

45°C:

• Masbate City, Masbate
• Maasin, Southern Leyte
• Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

44°C:

• Dagupan City, Pangasinan
• Bacnotan, La Union
• Aparri, Cagayan
• Roxas City, Capiz
• Dumangas, Iloilo
• Catarman, Northern Samar
• Surigao City, Surigao del Norte

43°C:

• Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
• ISU Echague, Isabela
• Daet, Camarines Norte
• Virac (Synop), Catanduanes
• Juban, Sorsogon
• Iloilo City, Iloilo
• Guiuan, Eastern Samar
• Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte
• Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur

42°C:

• Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
• Iba, Zambales
• CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija
• Baler (Radar), Aurora
• Casiguran, Aurora
• Aborlan, Palawan
• Cuyo, Palawan
• Legazpi City, Albay
• CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur
• Mambusao, Capiz
• Mactan International Airport, Cebu
• Siguijor, Siquijor
• Catbalogan, Samar

The lowest heat index remains to be recorded in BSU, La Trinidad, Benguet with 24°C.

PAGASA classifies areas with 42°C to 51°C heat index under the danger category, while areas with 52°C and above fall under extreme danger.

Heat stroke is imminent in areas under extreme danger, while heat cramps, exhaustion and heat stroke are probably risks under the danger level.

PAGASA advises the public to limit outdoor activity, remain hydrated and wear fresh clothes to avoid heat-related illnesses. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
