Heavier rains expected over Luzon due to LPA, Habagat
State weather bureau PAGASA on Thursday said heavier rains are expected in different parts of Luzon up to Sunday due to the effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the LPA will bring downpour of 100 to 200 mm over Cagayan from Wednesday to Friday noon.
Rainfall from 50 to 100 mm will also be experienced over Batanes, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte during the same period.
From Friday noon to Saturday noon, PAGASA said the LPA will cause rainfall from 50 to 100 mm over Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.
From Saturday noon to Sunday noon, the LPA will bring rainfall from 100 to 200 mm over Batanes and 50 to 100 mm over Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, Habagat will cause rainfall from 100 to 200 mm over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro from Wednesday to Friday noon.
Rainfall from 50 to 100 mm is also expected in Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Batangas in the same period.
From Friday noon to Saturday noon, rainfall from 50 to 100 mm may be experienced in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
From Saturday noon to Sunday noon, PAGASA said Habagat will cause rainfall from 50 to 100 mm in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
“The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property,” it added.
Classes were suspended and commuters were stranded in multiple areas due to the heavy rainfall Thursday in Metro Manila and some provinces. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
